The Fisherman's Wife

from Voices & Vices Volume II by Jonathan Atkins

/

lyrics

Three steps into her lonely game of house arrest,
A slam from a front door and a scream of a child,
Occupy the sound space that circulate around her head,
And the morning dew and ocean waves are anything but mild.

There are headaches to be born with the mysteries that hide,
So incredibly deep in the back of her constantly blabbering mind,
But there is relief to be found in her fountain of eternal youth,
Covered in makeup, filling up cups, waiting up for someone she wants to leave behind.

There's no knowledge in knowing that you don't know.
There's no sparing for the sparrow that hides away in her nest all her life.
But that little bird was free to have flown with the countless hours he was away.
But that little bird remains the fisherman's wife.

Caught in the net of reality that things in her home,
Are wasting away each dreadful day that are wandering alone.
And if she tear away from the picture, wipe her tears away for a final,
Victory at ripping off and killing a piece of her inside her soul,

That was killing off her soul.

about

Jonathan Atkins Mississauga, Ontario

"A singer-songwriter with a devastating ear for harmonies and a delicate touch with lyrics that slide perfectly into a horrid winter. There's a definite Celtic touch, but far sweeter than something like Mumford & Sons." - Andrew Fifield (Metro News)
