Pretty

from Flybird by Jonathan Atkins

lyrics

Moontime, Autumn,
Scarf wrapped tight around my throat,
I'm beginning to see,
Why I love this time the most.

Dressed for sweater weather,
Comfortable at best,
While you sit and complain,
You'd rather have the tropics, instead.

And we could talk about the future,
But nothing was enough,
I couldn't follow you anywhere,
Nothing supported any of my stuff.

And someday, sometime soon,
I'll know what it's all about,
But right now I'm not in love,
And that's something I've figured out.

I've never seen rainbows,
All mixed together and jumbled up.
And I've never seen a world,
So unsure and so fucked up.

And after all this time,
I couldn't look at you, obsessed,
And it's still fair to say,
What pretty eyes, I guess.

Noontime, December,
I'm starting to realise,
That the cold winds starve my face,
Of any sort of life,

And given any memory,
Of stupid humid summer days,
I remember why it is,
I love the winter ways.

And I wouldn't give anything,
To be anywhere else,
I've learned to love this cold city,
And it's given me my health.

And someday, sometime soon,
I'll know what it's all about,
But right now I'm in love,
And that's something I've figured out.

I've never seen birds,
So unhappy to fly,
And I've never seen a world,
So eager to burn up and die

And after all this time,
I couldn't look at you, unless,
I told myself,
'What pretty eyes, I guess."

about

Jonathan Atkins Mississauga, Ontario

"A singer-songwriter with a devastating ear for harmonies and a delicate touch with lyrics that slide perfectly into a horrid winter. There's a definite Celtic touch, but far sweeter than something like Mumford & Sons." - Andrew Fifield (Metro News)
