The Wandering

by Jonathan Atkins

Here I stand, By a lakeside, Waiting for a sleight of hand, To wisp me away, And hold me tight by the bay, Where the boats used to stay, Where the boats no longer stay. Winterised so many times, Where I kept myself alone, No one's meant to be alone, at all. But if loneliness were to take my heart, And spread itself in wondering, I'd let myself keep wandering, Waiting till I find myself a home. And there I walk, Finding a path among, Past memories strung, Up high on lamp posts, I finally realise Redemption in your eyes. I've been winterised so many times, Where I kept myself alone, No one's meant to be alone, at all. Dear loneliness, take my heart, And spread yourself in wondering, Let myself keep wandering, Until I'm finally home. No one should be alone, No one's meant to be alone. No one should ever be alone.

There was a bright light, Over the city over night, And there was 5 minutes, I swear we had no sight, But in the middle of the night time, When there's so much to be made, And so much to be heard, So many stories in our brains, And there's not many people, Out on this cold night, Few dog walkers, In the frigid, without fright, And we've got 10 stars, To wish upon, As we state, The things we long, For. 'Cause in this town, There's not many stars, Just light polluting, Our big ol' city sky, We don't frown, We love where we are, With these bright lights exposing, Our big ol' red sky. 4 seasons, So distinctly set apart, By temperatures, leaves, And earth's warm heart. All of them share, One common thing, we say That the sky stays the same, All fucking day. Because in this town, There's not many stars, Just light polluting, Our big ol' city sky, We don't frown, We love where we are, With these bright lights exposing, Our big ol' red city sky. We don't need those stars, To show us where to go or where we are. We don't need those stars to guide us home. We don't need those stars to reflect off your eyes, 'Cause I've come to realise. I've come to realise that the city is where we're home.

O my soul is breaking, Holding on to all the things, I thought, myself, could carry, On my own. O my soul is crushing, Wondering what should it bring, And what to leave buried, By the road. O my soul find heartbreak, In hiding all the things it made, With passion, love, and interest, In the dirt. O my soul is heartbreak, Tearing itself until it fades, Leaving every witness, In the dark. O my soul, O my soul, It seeks out redemption, Like a broken man, Begging on the road. O my soul, O my soul finds a saviour, With open arms and loving hands, Standing just across the road. O my soul, O my soul, O my soul, Find me love, O my soul, O my soul, O my soul, Find me love, O my soul, O my soul, O my soul, Find me love, O my soul, O my soul, O my soul.

I've never been lost on the water at night, I've never had to bargain with fright, I've never had to search for a light, To guide me to shore. I've never been held up by the bay, Never had to sink my anchor to keep away, From a darkening storm that would stay, So close to my boat. But there's still a shining light, Through every heartfelt night, Spent with myself in dire rage, Taken out with a few breath's, a lighthouse, and a page. The world still turns, with rotating lights, Hopes and broken dreams strung up with kites, We all hold onto something we don't know, But I know what I have with the lighthouse glow. Sometimes I think to hard, About all the thing's that have gone to far. And sometimes there are no stars, Above my head. But I don't need it bad, Just to know the good things that I've had, I find I'm always safe beneath the plan, Of the lighthouse song. The world still turns, with rotating lights, Hopes and broken dreams strung up with kites, We all hold onto something we don't know, But I know what I have with the lighthouse glow. It's sort of funny how I've found myself here, At the base of a lighthouse without fear. There's no noise, no problem to guide me near, Perhaps fascination of something finally good. She has found me, but she will never know, How far I've walked these roads, And now I wait for the choices to lead in the way our hearts want, Because who I am is divided by a lighthouse song, And the timing is oh so right. I didn't need to have it bad, To know that this is right.

Lead me beside quiet waters, And refresh my soul, I'm in need of a feeling, To reap the deeper parts of this fool. I've seen darkness in the caves, And I've seen people come to save, Themselves from all the muddy waters, But that's not for me, I need the quiet waters for my soul. Not for me, I'm still fading by myself it seems, It's just me, but I've found kindness in your eyes, And a smile to ignite the skies, With all kinds fireworks, Yet lead me, still, beside quiet waters, And refresh my soul. Lead me along the star missing streets, To stare at the lights in the cold, And hold my hand, because I swear to you, It sends sparks all the way to my toes. And maybe it's just me, but I need the quiet waters for my soul. For you and me, I'm still fading by myself it seems, It's just me, but I've found kindness in your eyes, And a smile to ignite the skies, With all kinds fireworks, Yet lead me, still, beside quiet waters, And refresh my soul. Wandering from home, To find out where the light is coming from. The orange glow rests just below, The horizon. I hope you see, This sight that amazes me. While you stay, So far away. The moon shines, As bright as it can. Reminding me, Just who I am, With you everything is ok, And all goes our way. The moon shines, As bright as it can. Reminding me, Just who I am, With you everything is ok, And all goes our way. I've seen darkness cover the landscapes, And people walk calmly into the blank rage, But now I've seen bright lights brighten your face, And all the little problems that I made inside my head, Just sort of disappear with the anticipation that I've made.

about

Jonathan Atkins Mississauga, Ontario

"A singer-songwriter with a devastating ear for harmonies and a delicate touch with lyrics that slide perfectly into a horrid winter. There's a definite Celtic touch, but far sweeter than something like Mumford & Sons." - Andrew Fifield (Metro News)
